Babbel - Like a Local
A man moves through a small coastal town in Spain with the ease and confidence of a local…chatting, connecting, and fully immersing himself in the culture. Even when he makes a small language mistake, it doesn’t break his rhythm, it reinforces that he feels comfortable enough to keep going. Babble Like a Local reframes language learning as the confidence to participate, not the pressure to be perfect.

The Challenge
I had to ask the big question right out of the gate; how do you make language learning feel simple, approachable, and emotionally rewarding in a category often defined by rigor and repetition? More importantly, how do you shift the focus from technical fluency to the confidence it takes to actually use a new language in real-world situations?
People don’t wait until they’ve mastered something to start using it; they engage when they feel confident enough to try. Making mistakes isn’t a failure of learning…it’s a natural and necessary part of feeling like you belong.
The Insight
My team created a visually-driven spot set in Cadaqués, Spain that captures the feeling of living like a local, not just visiting. By following a character who seamlessly integrates into daily life (despite a small language slip) I wanted to show that Babbel gives you the confidence to engage, not just the tools to study. The execution leans into authentic, human moments and the cinematic location works to ground the story in realism. The result was a campaign that positioned Babbel as the bridge between learning a language and actually living it. Plus, it makes you want to hop the next flight to the western coast of Spain.
